Just Your Average Teen

You look at me and what do you see...

Just your average teen?

Well that's all because of me.

You don't look sick they all say,

Yet we don't see death, okay?

Everyday is a challenge and for me multiply that by three.

Life Chronically is all we see.

But what do y'all see...

Me faking, attention seeking, getting out of things, being lazy?

The truth lies in what we don't see

The days where I'm stuck in bed because I cannot stand up

The days I faint multiple times just from moving sides

The days my blood pressure is so low I'm the "walking dead"

The days my heart decided to run a marathon while I'm just in bed

The medications that require early rises

The insomnia that demands a restless night

The inability to do simple things

Dysautonomia changes lives in the blink of an eye.

From being to a beauty queen to a hospital queen,

They say all I've got is me.

You say I'm "normal" and that's all because of me.

It's the side that puts makeup on to hide the elastic skin

The side that uses their hair to cover side affects of medications

The side that wears long sleeves to hide IV's

The side that lies and says "I'm fine" to stop the stares

The side that dies silently inside everyday

You'll be fine they say, but fine will no longer cut it.

We want answers! We want to be told you're not alone!

We want hope that tomorrow may be a "good" day!

We want the life we once had!

We want the chance to do what everyone else does!

We want to stand up for more than ten minutes!

We want change!

We want change not only in the process of a cure but in the idea the common man puts on us zebras. We didn't choose this life and it's not up to you to define us! We are actual people too! We are the warriors fighting everyday to perceive being okay.

Life chronically may be my life sentence, but chronically living is my life mission!

Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there! And it's not "all in my head". Invisible illness does not define who we are instead it gives us more depth than any "normal" person could ever imagine

I am a "spoonie, POTSie, zebra" and because of that

I AM ME!!
